What's the real difference between the 'eeepc' and 'eeepc-lean' kernels?
Answer:
In a nutshell, the eeepc-lean kernel is just like the eeepc kernel except several non-eeepc drivers have been removed and the ones that remain have been compiled in-line with the kernel itself.
The end result is a (theoretically) faster kernel on bootup and in day-to-day use.
Please note that 'eeepc-lean' is still classified as experimental (as if this writing) in that it is possible that too many modules have been stripped or compiling them in-line has a bad effect on the overall ubuntu usage.
Personally, I use the eeepc-lean on my EeePC 900 and have not had any major issues, however others have noted odd delays (10s-20s) during bootup).
